About Tudor Leaderheads and Tudor Gutters :
One of the more subtle but important elements of Tudor Revival architecture is the use of classic copper gutter elements that evoke hand-craftsmanship. These gutter systems age with time to a wonderful dark brown and bronze patina. Some of the older implementations were made of bronze or zinc which have beautiful patinas of their own. The systems are marked by the use of somewhat large leaderhead (or sometimes called "collector boxes") that allowed for proper downspout operation in heavy rainflows by allowing air into the down-draft. These systems are still a hallmark of high-end, high craftsmanship homes, and should not be overlooked or omitted from consideration. Another subtle but important aspect of the downspout is the use of downspout brackets that can sometimes be very fanciful and ornate. These parts are usually cast bronze (or other) heavy metal, and provide for a truly authentic system.
